Financial year ending 31 March 2026 · published 12 August 2026.
Our business
On The Shift Ltd develops and supplies workforce software to security companies in the United Kingdom. We employ our staff directly on permanent contracts, pay at or above the real Living Wage, and use no agency or zero-hours labour in our own operation.
This statement is made under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps taken during the financial year to ensure slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in our business or supply chains.
Supply chains
Short: cloud hosting, software services, professional advisers, and a small amount of office and equipment procurement. No manufacturing, and no operations outside the UK and the EEA.
Where the risk actually is
Our direct risk is low. The risk we take seriously is in the industry we serve.
Manned guarding carries recognised exploitation risk: low-margin subcontracting, long chains of labour supply, umbrella and intermediary payroll arrangements, workers with limited English or insecure immigration status, and a culture of unpaid extra hours around shift handover. Documented UK cases have involved security workers having identity documents withheld, wages deducted for accommodation, or being paid below the minimum wage once actual hours are counted.
We cannot police our customers. We can refuse to build software that makes any of it easier, and we can build software that makes it visible.
Policies and due diligence
We maintain an anti-slavery and human trafficking policy, a whistleblowing policy permitting anonymous reporting without retaliation, a recruitment policy requiring direct right-to-work verification, and a supplier code of conduct. All are reviewed annually. New suppliers above a spend threshold are assessed for modern slavery risk before engagement, and our standard terms require compliance with the Act and a right to audit.
How the product itself helps
Several things in the software exist partly for this reason:
- Right-to-work evidence is required before an officer can be scheduled, so it cannot quietly be skipped for someone in a weak position.
- Hours are recorded from check-in, not from what the rota planned. Unpaid overtime around handover becomes visible in the data rather than absorbed.
- Officers see their own timesheet before payroll runs, so pay can be queried by the person affected rather than discovered afterwards.
- Bank details are entered by the officer and encrypted, making it harder for several workers' wages to be routed to one account.
- Working-time limits are enforced on the rota, so excessive consecutive shifts are refused rather than logged.
We will not build features whose main purpose is to obscure hours worked, to route pay through unnamed intermediaries, or to withhold identity documents.
Training
All staff complete modern slavery awareness training at induction and annually. Customer-facing staff receive additional training on the specific indicators in guarding, and on what to do if they see something concerning in a customer’s data.
